Going On A Treasure Hunt

The day after the kayak trip had caused Eduardo and Silvia to lose so much money the story of 10.000 PHP lying on the bottom of the sea had made it's word around El Nido. This meant that many of the local fishermen asked us where the accident took place. This continued until one of them invited us to come with him and his crew on his speedboat to pinpoint the exact position of where the kayak flipped. The sea having been so stormy and the rain so strong the day before I must admit that no one knew the exact position. About 4 men dived for the wallet for over an hour while Eduardo, Silvia, Caro (who we had met just beforehand in the hostel) and I were swimming about in the sea. The search for this treasure was unfortunately without luck, however one of the divers found a blowfish which we enjoyed playing with for bit.

The next day we finally managed to get on one of the boat hopping tours. The days before they had been cancelled because of the stormy weather. I had my first snorkelling experience and got to see some Nemo's (clownfish) and some goat skulls (not sure how they got into the water). In the afternoon Eduardo and Silvia left and I went to the Pukka Bar in the evening with Guilia and Beatrice that I had just met while Island hopping. Just to briefly describe, this bar is located right next to the sea (when the tide is coming in the water will reach your feet), has a reggae band playing every night (the same songs…) and an overall very relaxing atmosphere.

I started talking to some guy who had just found out that he was an orphan and that he had been adopted (he was a doctor, early twenties). He understandably was quite upset and as if it couldn't have gotten any worse, some extremely drunk USAian (i'm going to call him Jimmy) kept on bullying him and was starting fights with some of the locals plus some regulars. This ended up in Jimmy being thrown out of the bar and when he continued his nuisance some of the locals beat him up pretty bad. You'd think Jimmy would stop at this point, however after about 20min of him being gone - most of the customers had left at this point - there was a loud shatter and suddenly the lights went off. When the lights went back on there was some shattered glass, the remains of a bottle, lying on the floor and a local woman was holding her head. She had not been hit badly and it must've been a fragment that got her. Nonetheless I cannot believe how lucky we were that no one got seriously hurt. I just hope that Jimmy learned these 'obvious' lessons when he woke up and felt his sore jaw: don't be a dick and never mess with the locals.
